Optometrists use many types of procedures and tests in order to examine your eyes. Some are quite simple, like asking you to read an eye chart or tell whether you see red or green on a page. Others are very complex and require the use of a high-powered lens for the doctor to be able to see the tiny structures inside of your eyes.
A regular comprehensive exam might take an hour or more, depending on your situation. You will want the doctor to fully evaluate your vision and determine the health of your eyes. A low-vision exam can take 2 - 2 1/2 hours.
